Scottish Universities Golfing Society (est 1906)

Welcome to the Scottish Universities Golfing Society (“SUGS”) website. We are a small society with around 200 members - all of whom played university golf while students. We typically play fixtures against eight university teams within Scotland each year. We also have matches with other golfing societies in the fixture list. This includes playing the Oxford & Cambridge, London, Dublin and Queens (Belfast) University Golfing Societies.

We hold a Spring Meeting and an Autumn Meeting, where members compete for the society’s trophies, some of which date back to the 1930s. These events have historically been held at Prestwick GC and Gullane GC respectively.

SUGS was founded in 1906 and celebrated its centenary at a special event in October 2006, as documented here. An excellent history of the society was written by former Captain, Gordon G. Simmonds, to mark the occasion.
